Broken toe :-(

I don't know if you can see how swollen the toe and the whole foot is but it is swollen! It's the toe that looks like a small sausage as we say in Sweden prinskorv

Yes, last night I woke up and went to the bathroom. I never turn the light on because then I get wide awake. So I did what I came for and then when I turned to wash my hands, yes still in the dark, I smashed my foot into a chair.

There is never a chair there normally. It's in the shower but now for some reason someone, H, had put it there. It hurt like h...l and I had to turn the light on. What I saw was the second toe, beside the pinkie toe, in almost 90 degrees angle. I suppose I was still sleepy because I thought I can't have it this way. So I took the toe and bent it back to an upright position and I can tell you it hurt!!!!!

I had trouble sleeping after that because every position I tried in bed hurt in my foot. A little toe can hurt that much?!?  Well, it does. Because I was in horisontal position it didn't swell and no other sign of bruises or anything this morning but when I stood up on the floor it was almost more than I could cope with. So I put on my slippers who are quite firm over that spot.

Good slippers that gives support to my toe :-)
After shower, hard to do but I managed, and breakfast I drove to work. I have automatic car and it was the "right" foot that was hurt so it was perfectly fine. At work of course I wasn't as movable as usual and before 10AM the foot had swollen quite good and the toe also started to change color til blue and black :-) It's no idea going to hospital because they won't do anything anyway.

Lucky it wasn't yesterday when I had the Monday lunch at work. I made green asparagus soup with crayfishtail"röra". (It's a mixture I made of crayfishtails, whipped cream, creme fraiche, dill, cayennepepper, salt and blackpepper.) You put some of the röra in the soup and it's delicious. It's crayfishpartytime here in Sweden now so it was quite suitable. To that I baked some nice baguettes and ciabatta bread. For dessert Pecanfudgepie with whipped cream. They liked it. I made soup for 18 people which was lucky because we had extra guests so in all I served 14!
I'm afraid I don't have any photos because they are all at work.

I hope you have a good day or night depending on where you are :-)

Take care and be kind to one another!

Cruise to Åbo (Turku) with the boys

View from our suite. Gorgeous!

Last weekend I didn't do much. No exciting outings or anything, just hanging around the house.

On Tuesday I went to a friend for dinner. She has her birthday on Sunday so me and our other friend met up at her house to celebrate her. Very nice and a very good dinner.

Then on Thursday I first went to Norrtalje for some treatment, chat and lunch with my very good friend Anne. She is so good in reflexology and that helps me a lot. We had a wonderful lunch at the Åtellet in Norrtälje before I headed back home.

At home the boys, Danniel, Emil and Hasse waited for me because we were going on a cruise to Åbo in Finland which we treated Danniel and Emil to. Hasse and me had one of those luxurious suites with big balcony and the boys had a A cabin with window very close to our suite. Why wasn't Jonas with us you may ask? Well, he was in Gothenburg with H.E.A.T playing at the Gothenburg culture festival.

We had an excellent dinner before heading down to taxfree shopping and some gambling on the machines :-) Listened to some music but not much action on board since it was a Thursday. But we had a good time before going to bed.
Enjoying the sunshine on our balcony

We also like it
The next morning when in Turku (the ship is just there for 1 1/2 hour so no time to go ashore) we had breakfast before going to our suite and the balcony where we sat in the beautiful weather just enjoying the sun and the sea. Danniel and Emil went down to gamble and to shop some more. Me too and suddenly it was time for lunch which we had at Bistro Alex.
We had so nice waitresses both in the evening but also to lunch. She talked a lot to us and told us about her being on big cruise ships around the world. Very interesting and very nice.
Furusund Inn on the way in to Stockholm

Do you see the rainbow going down in the water?

Today I have been, together with Ingvor, looking for smart 4K TV sets for the Rheumatic district. We want to have two of them to be able to have lectures and education in an easy tecnical way.
Next week we are presenting this to the working committee.

And tomorrow it's time for me to cook for my work. I have figured out what to do but I won't tell you until afterwards. You never know if someone is reading this ;-)

So have a good weekend and week everyone and take care!

Thursday and a look back...

I have to share this with you. This is taken in August 1986 and the photo on top is me, Danniel and Jonas  in Visby. The photo below is our dear friends visiting us at our house in Gotland. There is me and opposite Janne. Beside him Anne and next to her Johnny and then her daughter Johanna. Beside me is Kitte. The children is probably playing somewhere and that would be Danniel, Andreas, Robert and Jonas :-) What a lovely day that was.

Back to now. Here in Sweden we have had a heatwave from 1 July and still. This has caused a massive forestfire which is now on its 7th day. 1 dead and 1 fighting for his life. A cop ran over by a person that wanted to go in where it is stop. She is now in hospital with brain injury.
Another fire started today again in another forest area. We have help now from planes that carries large amounts of water. They come from France and Italy. Also helicopters from Norway is helping out. This is the largest fire in Sweden in modern time.

We have a lot of thunderstorms going on with flooding as follow (but not in the areas where the fire is) but the rain coming down isn't enough.

Other than that I have been working and that has been somewhat of an ordeal. No AC and no fans. But I didn't give up and on Mondayt I found some fans and bought 4. They were supposed to come today but luckily they came already the day after and was a relief but still it just fan the hot air we have.

My beautiful sister Helen

Sisters me and Helen
I also saw my dentist yesterday, who happens to be my sister :-) It's her birthday tomorrow so I gave her her birthday gift yesterday already. It's a luxury cruise to Helsinki with the Rock boat. And yes, before yo ask - H.E.A.T will be playing as well as Survivor and a lot of other bands. We will, of course, be staying in a Commodore suite :-) She was very happy for that gift. And I hadn't any caries but I in one of my front teeth I had a sliver and she built it up again so now the tooth is as good as new.
Commodore cabin
Nothing more to report. I will take it easy this weekend and rest. I have an inflammation going on in my leg which I hope will cure soon.

Have a nice weekend everyone and take care!

What a wonderful trip and concert this was!

Since last I wrote I have been on a trip to the archipelago of Sankt Anna in Ostergotland

This is where we were
together with my good friend Ingvor. We took my little blue car and down we went. It's not that far. It takes around 3,5 hours but that includes a stop for lunch. We had lunch at Soderkoping's brunn which is a very old brunn in fact the second oldest company in Sweden. It was founded in 1774.

After the lunch which was served on the glassed veranda (not very nice when it was over 30C) we drove the last bit down to Stegeborg's garden hotel which was the most delightful little hotel that I found just 2 days before we went.

The hotel - beautiful surroundings

The thing is that I had previously booked a hostel by the sea but then I read that it didn't have a toilet or shower en suite but you would have to go down a steep stair to get to it and that is was a shared shower and toilet like for both men and women. Not interested in that! And the steep stair wouldn't have been good for me and my friend so desperately I looked for other accomodation and found this which turned out to be a real treasure. Beautiful room, not big but enough, with en suite and wonderful aminities.
Sankt Anna church - people queing up

Me and my friend Ingvor in line

After we had put our bags in the room off we went to the concert which was in Sankt Anna church. It was with two of my favorite singers and the most nice and humble artists I know. They are cousins and both of them grew up here. So every summer they traditionally have concerts here for a week. This was the first time for us but not the last.
Peter, his nephew and his dad
Peter singing to Matilda from Phantom of the Opera - "sing to me, sing"
What a wonderful concert with Peter Johansson, Matilda Grün, family members from the age of 10 and up to Peter's father Janne. Other family members helped out with tickets, hosting and selling merch. After the concert we were given coffee and cinnamon buns (for free). The concert was so great and I cried, I laughed, I had goosebumps. Just like it should be if it's a great show. Looking forward to hearing them again at their Christmas show and earlier a rock show with Peter and his friend, equally rocking good, Bruno.

Stegeborgs harbor restaurant
Stegeborgs castle ruin
This is how close we sat to the water :-)
And as we sat there this schooner came for dinner and docked at the restaurant
After the concert (still around 30C) we went down to the Stegeborg harbor restaurant and got a table just beside the water. So nice and with a cooling breeze. After dinner we went back to the hotel and sat on the big veranda just enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside. A good nights sleep and woke up to 12C. What a relief that was. But of course during the day it rose to the usual (nowadays) 32C.

Me at Torpa inn which we visited on the way home
I started working on Monday and it was like a sauna! No one had been there for 3 weeks and the heat (!) had accumulated in the stone house. I have been looking for fans all over Stockholm and Sweden and they aren't any to be found (we don't have AC in the office :-( ). They are all sold out. So I took my own from home to the big room at work. I have a small fan in my room which I bought myself a couple of years ago.
Because of the heat I have also moved down in our house. We have a split level house and downstairs it's much cooler. In my bedroom I have had 29C and I can't sleep when it's that hot. Downstairs it's "only" 25C but it's easier to sleep. So I bought an inflatable mattress exactly the same as we have in La Mirada when the girls come :-) It's really comfy to sleep on.
This is how I sleep now during this heat

Talking about H.E.A.T next week they will be in Alicante performing on Leyendas del Rock :-) They are out and about all the time :-) Good for them.

My sisters best friend in the world has had an accident and hit his head badly. He has been in ICU but happily enough he's out of there now and awake. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will be fully recovered. And to my sister who is there for him and her husband all the time - I love you and admire your strength.

Until next time - take care!
