Ouch!!

OK, the weekend started out very well. We came home from Helsinki on Saturday and had a great night home in peace and quiet.

Sunday I started cooking rather early in the morning. I treated my co-workers to a warm sandwichcake which I invented there and then.
Lunch
I took sandwiches which I cut the edges off. Then placed 15 of them on a baking paper on a oven plate. On the first layer I made a filling out of chantarelle cheese (soft), creme fraiche and creme fraiche with mushroms.
The second filling was: 1 kg of ground beef, 2-3 onions, 3-4 mushroms. I fried these together until it was soft and done ;-) Then I sprinkled 2 tablespoons of flour, 2 tablespoons of Chinese soy sauce (not the Japanese ones, it's too thin),
2-3 dl of whipped cream and then water and spices. I used salt, white peppar, black peppar, chiliflakes (not too much) but you can take what you like.
The texture should be firm but spreadable.
So I place 15 bread over the first layer and spread the second filling. Then one more layer of bread. On top of the last layer I spread butter (easier if you warm it a bit) Then fairly drained pineapplecrush, on top of that thin slices of tomatoes and then top it all with lots of Vasterbotten cheese :-) In the oven for around 30-35 minutes in 200 C oven.

I served it with a lovely sallad. They all liked it but as usual I made way too much food. This recipe is, I would think, for at least 15 people maybe more.

For dessert I had made Pecanpie with whipped cream which also was very well received :-)

Anyway, what I wanted to tell you and that is the ouch thing is when I was carrying all the food into the fridge, I bumped into the sofa leg thus making my toe nail crack into two pieces :-( That hurt I can tell you and it also bleed a lot.
I haven't done anything but tried to tape it together. I'm going to the doctor on Wednesday to have my stiches removed so I will ask then if I need to do something. It's so painful when I walk, really ouch!!

And today it has been so humid, like thunder weather, and it has rained a lot!!  I don't like this weather at all! Hopefully it will be better towards the weekend.

Now I will stop moaning and wish you all a good day or good night depending on where you are!

Healing and Helsinki

Beautiful sunset over the Baltic sea at 10PM

Since the operation I have been doing really good. The healing goes well and I have been a good girl not overdoing anything.
Cheers
On Thursday though Hasse and I went for a luxury cruise to Helsinki. We actually found out we haven't been there since 2011. We did go there last year on the cruise around the Baltic sea but we never left the ship. The harbour where the ship docked was so far from the town and it was a very sunny day so that's why we stayed on board last year.
Stockholm archipelago

I wish I had a better camera. The moon was full and red-yellow, just stunning

The moped veteran race. In the background the Market square

Here you can how many there are and half had already passed here.
Lunch at Fazer café
I also went to Helsinki in September on a conference cruise but never went ashore since we worked.

Dinner at the Italian restaurant on board
So this was actually the first time in 3 years. Of course something spectacular happened. Last time it was a Formel 1 race with international stars. This time it was a race with veteran mopeds through Helsinki. There were several hundreds of them and some from very far away like Japan.

This is taken 6.30AM
Hasse found a very nice sweater. He always finds something to buy when in Helsinki or on the ship. We have a lovely lunch at Fazer café. Soup and deliciouse bread. And we walked and walked! We were so tired when we returned to the ship so we had a rest.

The restaurant where we had our breakfast
I really love cruising and this time we had a balcony. We also had a calm and sunny trip and I sat on the balcony enjoying the archipelago while listening to a book. That's how it should be and it's so relaxing.

Me at breakfast
And yes Jo, I do miss the quiet beach days in La Mirada. The peace and calm and no musts. I also miss our talks, our laughs and just hanging out. I also, of course, miss Lulu but I suppose she has forgot me now. I miss sitting in the garden looking at the humming birds or be able to go out and take an orange from the tree. I wouldn't like the temperatures you're having now. That is way too hot for me.

This coming week I will cook for my job on Monday. On Wednesday I will go to my doctor to remove the stiches and to get my B12 shot. On Thursday I'm going to my friend Anne in Norrtalje and on Friday I have 2 meetings at the Rheumatic association. Saturday and Sunday nothing planned.

H.E.A.T is still on tour and having a huge success all over Europe. So well deserved. At the moment they are in England. Played London last night and Newcastle today.

Take care!

Conference, media training and operation

Sunset over Sastaholm.
Sastaholm
Since I last wrote I have attended a panel debate on the health care in Stockholm. We in the Rheumatic association together with other handicap organisations arranged it and there were politicians from every party represented in the county council of Stockholm.
Very interesting but not enough focus on our questions.
Media training with 2 of the journalists

On Friday we had arranged a conference in a wonderful place called Sastaholm. It used to be a retirement home for old actors/actresses and you can really tell by the decor and everything.

Dinner
The first day we had media training by 3 journalists which ended up in us being filmed for "TV-show" like Good morning TV or Nyhetsmorgon. Of course I was the one in my group that got filmed. I was interviewed about patient schools for people with osteoarthritis. They said I did a good job but I didn't repeat the message enough times :-)

Grillbuffet
In the evening dinner together before some headed down and played with all the wigs and clothes (from old movies and theatre productions), dressing up and having fun.

Working with the board
Saturday we had the most gorgeous breakfast before starting the work with the new board. We really did a lot those hours on Saturday and felt really satisfied when we ended the conference.
Me in the conference room where we were filmed

I went back home where Emil and Hasse waited for me. We celebrated Emil who had turned 27 on Friday. My sis Helen and Danniel came as well as Pinglan.
Jonas is on tour in Europe and couldn't make it of course. We had a very nice time and Emil was well celebrated. We had grilled pork, the first grill of the year, but it was nearly not done since the weather wasn't on our side. It has been raining now for quite some time. And before that it was frost. So no summer in sight yet.

Dinner with family

Pinglan

Hasse and I are going on a cruise to Helsinki on Thursday and we do hope we will have some nice weather.

Today I had a small operation. My doctor thought it was a benign tumor but on my back but when he cut open it turned out to be an infection that had been
encapsulated. He showed me afterwards what he had taken out, gross.

I have had that in my jawbone but not in my back before. Anyway I stayed home today after that but will go to work tomorrow.

Hope you all have a good week. Take care!

H.E.A.T concert and family lunch

Having dinner at O'Learys

And another one. We had a room to ourselves :-)
Saturday me and Hasse went to a rock concert at Tyrol, Gröna Lund, which of course featured H.E.A.T.
Reading the menu
We were 15 or 16 family members from the families which had dinner together before the gig.
A very nice time and a chance to catch up since we haven't seen each other for a long time. That is all together I mean.

After dinner we went to Tyrol and I bought a T-shirt for Hasse (it was really for me but he liked it so much I gave it to him).
The show started and what a show it was! They really gave their all and many of the songs from the new album "Tearing down the walls" was in the set.
I love them! They should really play an arena with
20 000 when they sing Tearing down the walls. What an anthem that is!

They also seemed to have real fun up there both together and with the audience which is great I think. We met many H.E.A.T fans there and something that was real special is how far people will travel to see them. There was a girl from their Japanese record label that came from Tokyo to see them! There was a girl from Brazil (I think it was) and so on.

Today they went to Berlin where they start their European tour. This bus will be their home for the tour. They will play in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands and England this time.
The bus

On Sunday all the boys and Mandy came for lunch. It was so nice to be able to gather them all. We had pulled pork with all the things that goes with it. Very good. And for dessert frozen cheese cake and presents from USA.
They were all quite happy with the things I bought even though one or two T-shirts switched owners ;-)
Mandy, Jonas, Emil and Danniel

This week is really busy. Tomorrow seminar with politicians, Friday and Saturday conference. Saturday afternoon celebrating Emil's birthday with BBQ.
Have a good week and take care!

Home again - jetlag - snow (long and lots of photos)

I'm back again after wonderful weeks with my family in LA. I have had the best of times and I thank you for always giving me the warmest welcome.
The Habit in Whittier for lunch with firefighters in the background

The day (or rather evening) I arrived Norbert met me and drove to the house. When I came in it was like no time had passed at all (though it was 3 years). We started chatting at once and Jo and I stayed up until almost 2AM talking :-)

The orange tree with the most delicious and juicy oranges.
I managed to catch our little hummingbird that nested in the backyard
Beautiful sounds from the garden

I wrote about the food truck dinner on Friday and on Sunday we had Norbert over for dinner before he was to head to his house in Las Vegas. On Saturday Jo started feeling sick and in the evening me too. On Sunday I was so tired felt kind of an ache in my stomach. I went to bed and slept for 3 hours. Norbert came, I went up hot with fever. Despite the delicious grilled meat I couldn't eat and after a couple of hours I went back to bed and slept for 13 hours! Woke up Monday and felt good again. It must have been some stomach bug.
The Lime truck that didn't do anything good for me

So Monday was Huntington beach day. Sunshine but windy. Went to Ruby's, of course, and had fish and chips and after that we went to Norbert.

Tuesday was the blood fullmoon night and we stayed up to fotograph it :-)

Me and Sandy at Panda Inn

Wednesday we went to La Habra where we had sushi, did some shopping and also Whittier.

Thursday we drove to Long Beach, went to the new Gelson's store and we had lunch at Acapulco sitting outside in wonderful sunshine.

On Friday I and Marvin went to the store to buy all that I needed to make Easter lunch. Arriving home I started to make the Swedish meatballs. Since we were 12 on Easter day I made around 150 meatballs :-) Later that the day we went to Long Beach airport to pick up Sandy and T who arrived from SLC. And later that evening Lizzie arrived by car from San Diego. So nice to see them again and once again it was as if no time had passed since we last met. The only thing was that T has grown so much and is now a tall and handsome young man.

At El Cholo
Saturday we went to El Cholo for lunch me, Jo, the girls and T. I had my favorite margarita with coconut :-) and as alway great food.
Later we drove to north LA to attend a house concert where Barkley and Hart performed. What a wonderful thing these house concerts are! People come to a private home where we sat in the backyard, a small stage, the pool, wonderful weather, crickets singing, the band, good food were served, drinks of all kind.
And even a celebrity being in LA/Hollywood :-)
Berkley and Hart at the house concert
Gorgeous garden and evening with great music and company

Beau Bridges with our host

Another wonderful tune
I just loved the concert. Berkley and Hart are so good! They play a kind of folk music and the texts really speaks to you. Good between the songs talk and both laughter and tears during their performance.

After the performance Jeff came to us and after him ran Beau Bridges and his wife Wendy. They had bought all the CD:s and he just came over to thank Jeff for the music. That was so nice and they had a good talk.
Easter lunch, Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, lingonberry, carrots
Some of our family members
The birthday cake
Easter Day came with me finishing the lunch. We had Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, carrots, lingonberry and even Leksand's hard bread. A huge success with all the family. Marvin's brother and sisters came as well as Christina, Rick and little Jameson (so nice to meet him since I haven't seen him before) and David. We had a lovely time together and Marvin's brother was so nice and brought me lots of walnuts and pecannuts. Thanks I really appreciated that!
Relaxing

Monday Sandy and Tristan went back to SLC. I really loved seeing the girls again. They are so precious to me and I love them dearly!
Firetruck outside Stater brothers

Mimmi's café Whittier
Tuesday we had lunch at Mimmi's cafe in Whittier. It was nice and sunny. I love all the places we went to for lunch me and Jo.

Cheesecake at Cheesecake factory
Jo at Mimmi's Café
Wednesday it was time to hit the mall. That is Brea mall and Jo stayed for a couple of hours and then we had lunch at Cheesecake factory which was wonderful. But the cheesecakes! They are huge (and good)!
I then went back in the mall for a couple of hours for some more shopping and then Jo returned to pick me up. I then made Quiche Lorraine for dinner. Jennifer came over to meet me and we had long good talk over dinner. So nice to meet her too.

The sound of the ocean

Next day was Beach Day! We drove to Long Beach, Seal beach where we had lunch at River's End café (rive San Gabriel that runs into the ocean). Had a great lunch of fish (halibut) and chips. We continued to Sunset beach and Huntington beach in the most glorious weather. Perfect!
Fish and chips at River ends cafe

Beautiful at Sunset beach
Last shopping which I did at Kohl's and Lane Bryant. The fun thing is that when shopping at Kohl's I had more discount than the sum I paid! Could only happen in the States ;-) We had lunch at Corner Bakery - good soup. At night we had some rain!!! Yes, rain. It was the first time ever I had experienced that in CA.

Me and Jennifer
Saturday we had lunch at In N Out, a must in CA, before packing all my things. And yes of course I had to buy a new suitcase to get all the stuff I bought with me back home.
A limo picked me up at 4.20PM Saturday. Jo and Marvin hadn't returned yet but we had said our goodbyes which was kind of hard and made me tear up.
So my journey home started. I flew with BA but this time with their allied American Airlines. Of course in Business. It's a long trip and I love having the opportunity to lie down flat and rest for a couple of hours.
London Sunday afternoon and then finally I arrived in Stockholm Sunday night at 9PM. Luckily my suitcases were the first on the belt so I was out rather quickly and Hasse stood there waiting for me.

We drove home and we had some tea before I hit the bed, with unpacked suitcases, at 22.30. Up again Monday morning at 4.15 for breakfast and then work at 05.45. I have had since then a hard time sleeping through the night.
Jetlaged I am yes and I get hungry at the most strange hours.
I am free from work today since it's May 1 (workers day) and it's really good. Tomorrow work again and then on Saturday me and Hasse are going to Tyrol to see H.E.A.T.
Sunday all the boys and Mandy are coming over for lunch. So nice!

As I promised Jo here comes some photos from my bedroom. It's so large I have to take in several pictures ;-)

Take care now and I talk to you later :-)
